Highland Water Rate Notice

Rates are going up for all Highland water customers beginning in February. The entirety of the increase in the cost of water will be paid to the city of Hammond water utility, which provides water to Highland, Munster, Griffith, Whiting and Dyer. Highland residents will begin paying $2.16 per 1,000 gallons of water – an increase of 10 cents per 1,000 gallons – effective with the bills mailed in February. If not for legal action by Highland and the other customer communities, town residents would have been charged $3.21 per 1,000 gallons — or an additional $1.05 per 1,000 gallons. In addition to achieving savings for residents going forward, the water department absorbed the Hammond rate hike for the first eight months of 2021. Click here to learn more.

Keeping Highland Safe

The Highland Town Council, Metropolitan Police Commission and Police Department Administration want to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the men and women – sworn, civilian and volunteer – who make the Highland Police Department a pillar of excellence among its peers in the law enforcement arena. “They are all heroes for making Highland a safe place for our residents, visitors and businesses to call home,” Highland Police Chief Pete Hojnicki said. “Their accomplishments in 2020 – both individually and collectively – are directly related to the low crime rates we experienced again this past year.” Click here for more details.
