Federal environmental officials – as well as the Indiana Department of Environmental Management – want residents to get as much information as possible in order to make smart decisions about what they can do to eliminate – or at least reduce – the amount of stormwater that begins on their property. It is that increased body of knowledge about the pollution of rainwater that has identified the issue, the negative ramifications and solutions. See below for links to stormwater educational information. More will be added as they become available.
The Northwest Indiana Storm Water Advisory Group (NISWAG) is a coalition of municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) entities providing leadership in the protection and enhancement of storm water resources within Lake and Porter Counties. As a volunteer group, all participants – including the Town of Highland – network and share strategies to implement storm water quality practices to reduce storm water pollution and work collectively to meet state and federal regulations.
