The Highland Town Council passed a resolution Dec. 28, 2022, recognizing the Highland Neighbors for Sustainability as an Advistory Associate Partner Organization to the town.
HNS hit the ground running with its first meeting and a winter seed sowing workshop in January.
HNS Town Liaison Cathy Perrin said the group will be:
Four members will attend the Indiana Sustainability and Resilience Conference in Indianapolis on Feb. 17 to learn more about funding opportunities and what other Indiana cities and towns are doing to make their communities more sustainable.
The group unofficially organized in 2020 at a climate action blitz at Lincoln Center, where the focus was greenhouse gas emissions in the region. Now, as then, she said they are looking to grow the organization.
“We are looking for volunteers who share our vision of making Highland more resilient and sustainable,” Perrin said. “Our goal is to improve the environmental quality of our community through education and advocacy.”
