BEWARE OF SCAMS

With the onset of spring and the upcoming summer season, Highland Police are reminding citizens of scams where valuables are removed from the home by criminals posing as utility workers for the town.

The scam artists appear with a request to check things inside a residence. All Highland Public Works employees wear badges with their uniforms and drive vehicles marked with the Town of Highland logo.

“If unknown subjects come to your door and you do not recognize them or they do not have proper identification, please call 911 immediately,” Police Chief Pete Hojnicki said “Be aware of suspicious vehicles or subjects and keep an eye out for  neighbors, too!”

Our year-end numbers are in ... and once again, through your collective efforts, each of you made Highland a safer place to live, raise a family, operate a business, and visit!

Although we had one homicide in 2015, through the efforts of our Criminal Investigations Division and Major Crimes Task Force, a suspect was quickly identified and charged.  One rape had occurred, and again from the efforts exhibited by the Patrol Division at the scene, the known suspect (former Sheriff's Deputy) was arrested and charged accordingly. Other major crimes listed in Uniform Crime Reports are as follows:

Each of you should be very proud of your efforts and successes ...

as are our Council and Commission members! Nice job to ALL!
