METER READINGS & BILLING
The town prizes on-time payments and efficiency. To that end, the water department has installed new electronic water meters on every home and business that save time and money by allowing the devices to be read by a single individual in one day.
Meters are read and bills mailed each month. Billing dates vary but typically occur on or near the fifth of each month. Payment is due on or about the 20th of each month. The town offers automatic payments that are deducted from your bank. You may sign up for the service at the Clerk-Treasurer’s office, 3333 Ridge Road, Highland.
Payments not received by the Clerk-Treasurer office or otehr designated payment locations on or before midnight are considered delinquent. The town may discontinue water service to delinquent customers after serving a 10-day notice.

HIGHLAND WATER WORKS
Highland residents and businesses have the benefit of living near Lake Michigan, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world. An agreement negotiated between the Highland Water Works Board of Directors and the city of Hammond provides millions of gallons of potable water to Highland each day.
Members of the Water Works Board of Directors, who are appointed by the Town Council, are responsible for assessing fees to recoup the cost of treating and transporting fresh water. Residents and businesses are billed monthly for water, waste water treatment based on water usage and solid waste collection.
