Every time a Highland resident phones 911 in need of urgent medical care, the call is routed seamlessly to the Prompt Ambulance communication center – a futuristic hub in the Highland Industrial Park that works to bring highly trained medics to your door more quickly than ever before.
Prompt invested millions of dollars in the dispatch facility, which is considered the most technologically advanced in Indiana.
Established in 1998, Prompt is owned and operated by lifelong Highland resident, Gary Miller, and his wife Char. The company has 500 employees and 13 base locations. The corporate headquarters and dispatch center in Highland puts Prompt within 15 miles of all eight Lake County hospitals.
In addition to Highland, the company is contracted to provide urgent medical care for residents and businesses in four neighboring communities -- Munster, Griffith, Dyer and Merrillville.
Prompt responds to about 10,000 urgent calls each year.
Prompt Ambulance Service is the largest private, pre-hospital provider in Northwest Indiana. Despite the changes in healthcare, the fundamental mission of emergency medical technicians and paramedics has not changed.
A majority of the company’s paramedic staff started their emergency medical services careers at Prompt. Today, The company employs 700 EMTs, paramedics, support and managerial staff, who work 24/7 providing world-class patient care.
